At this stage, little should surprise me. And frankly, little does. But when I saw the short clip of James White pleading for someone to dox Defiant Baptist, whose identity I only recently found out, but whose real-life name I’ve known for what seems like eons, I was a little taken ‘aback. It seemed almost farcical. The once-great apologist, or the apologist who once seemed great to me, was staring into the webcast camera with a look like he had just swallowed bitter gall, teeth gritting, the look of utter contempt mixed with self-assured, smothering arrogance, as he ranted for what seemed like forever about an anonymous x account who had cracked a joke at this expense.
At least this time White wasn’t screaming “sit down and shut up” at the critical voices in his head, as he did last time. At least he wasn’t bragging, as he did just last week, that his co-pastor - a martial arts expert - would kick someone in the face for disagreeing with him (he later claimed it was a joke, while his co-host defended the comment with utter seriousness, arguing that kicking someone in the face is a “biblical rebuke” that pastors are tasked by God give hand out. His podcasts have become train wrecks, an exercise in demonstrating exactly how immature and petulant a pastor could be while - with a straight face - lecturing his audience to be more mature and respectful.
I almost choked on my own guffawing when White derided critics of his doxing request, who had rightfully pointed out that he had supported the anonymity for years of Turretin Fan, an O.G. anon who had guest-hosted the Dividing Line and written and Alpha and Omega Ministries for years. According to White, Turretin Fan’s anonymity was kosher because he had never attacked elders. Apparently, you see, there’s something especially sinister about criticizing the ordained because - as I guess everyone knows - ordination elevates one above criticism by the common man, who has no right to question anyone who happens to be an elder in their local congregation. My guffawing was on account of that not being true at all; I had personally doxed Turretin Fan years before, precisely because he anonymously attacked elders (me, for starters). It turns out, the cover story that White told people - that Turretin Fan was anonymous because he had a top secret job with the U.S. government - was completely fabricated, and he was nothing but a lowly copyright attorney with a penchant for female body builders (according to his social media habits) who likely wanted to remain anonymous because of something embarrassing in his criminal history.
But that lack of honesty and self-awareness is just the tip of the iceberg. The spectacle unfolding in certain corners of evangelicalism is nothing short of a circus—a grotesque parade of hypocrisy, projection, and petulance masquerading as righteous zeal. The self-styled crusaders of the “anti-woke right”, who claim to champion biblical fidelity and maturity, have revealed themselves as the very embodiment of the “woke” pathologies they decry. They demand the doxing, firing, and excommunication of their critics for the sin of being politically incorrect, all while pointing fingers at their conservative opponents, labeling them “woke.” The irony is so thick it could choke a camel through the eye of a needle. This is not merely a lack of self-awareness; it is a masterclass in projection, a vulgar display of sanctimonious posturing that would make a Pharisee blush.
Consider the absurdity: one side, cloaked in the garb of Christian virtue, calls for the scalps of anonymous Christians for making crude jests, like the “no homo” quip by Defiant Baptist directed at James White. Yet, these same crusaders align themselves with a self-professed atheist, James Lindsay, whose vulgarity and filthy rhetoric would make a sailor wince. They celebrate this partnership in their so-called “anti-woke right” crusade, blind to the contradiction of condemning one man’s crude humor while exalting another’s crassness. It’s as if they’ve traded their moral compasses for a megaphone, shouting into the void while ignoring the beam in their own eye.
The hypocrisy deepens when we consider the methods of these evangelical warlords. They employ what can only be described as the most flamboyantly effeminate anon-hunter, Eli McGowan (I know he’s married to a woman, but if he’s straight then my favorite pair of pants are skinny jeans) to expose their enemies, a figure whose behavior—whether closeted or not—makes a mockery of their supposed stand for masculinity and godliness.
Imagine the scene: a self-important evangelical micro-celeb podcaster, who has likely never known the sweat of honest labor, sits in his nerdy echo chamber, issuing decrees like a mafia don calling for a hit on his enemies. He demands that Defiant Baptist’s head be served on a platter because of a joke. This is not the behavior of a mature man; it is the tantrum of a toddler. To think that an employer or pastor would receive an email from some anonymous dork, breathlessly reporting, “Did you know your employee made a ‘no homo’ joke at 3:57 EST?” is laughable in its absurdity. Yet, the threat is real: comply, or face the wrath of a yelping mob of crusading malcontents, ready to blast your church or business into oblivion on yelp. This is not godly accountability; it is blackmail in a scorched earth campaign to destroy people, plain and simple.
The letter sent to Defiant Baptist’s real life associates chronicled his tweets perceived to be politically incorrect and even highlighted his “known associates,” which included yours truly. Can you imagine an adult, supposedly mature Christian (who certainly identified as such in the letter) sending a note to tattle on another person that they (cue the dramatic music) are friends (turn up the volume) with (drum roll please) JD Hall? This is not three steps behind Burn Book behavior from Mean Girls, its three steps ahead. A gaggle of teenage girls with coordinated cycles could not, even on their worst day, imagine such overly dramatic methods to tattle on another human being’s friends list. And most insane of all, the doxer who sent the letter petitioning them to (in one way or another) punish Defiant Baptist was sent anonymously, or pseudonymously, under a false name. The hypocrisy of that is simply stunning.
The Apostle Paul rebukes such petty quarreling in Titus 3:9-11 (ESV): “But avoid foolish controversies, genealogies, dissensions, and quarrels about the law, for they are unprofitable and worthless. As for a person who stirs up division, after warning him once and then twice, have nothing more to do with him, knowing that such a person is warped and sinful; he is self-condemned.” These “anti-woke right” inquisitors are not defending the faith; they are stirring division, sowing discord over trifles, and condemning themselves in their sanctimonious fervor. Their actions are not only unprofitable but actively destructive to the body of Christ.
The grand irony is that these same crusaders, who scream “shut up” into the ether at the voices in their heads, have the gall to lecture the “woke right” on maturity. Has such dripping petulance ever tried to pass itself off as godliness with so straight a face? They play a dangerous game, wielding their influence to ruin lives over a sense of humor they don’t appreciate, like a Karen to end all Karens. This is not the mature Christian life promised in Scripture. This is not what godly manhood looks like. If conforming to Christ means turning out like James White, with his sanctimonious demands for retribution, then God help us all. As the Psalmist declares in Psalm 26:4-5 (ESV), “I do not sit with men of falsehood, nor do I consort with hypocrites. I hate the assembly of evildoers, and I will not sit with the wicked.” Yet, these crusaders seem all too comfortable consorting with falsehood when it suits their agenda.
Contrast this with James Lindsay, the atheist ally they celebrate. At least he spares us the lectures on “gentleness and respect” while spewing his vitriol. The hypocrisy of condemning one man’s vulgarity while embracing another’s is a stench that reaches heaven. Peter’s exhortation in 1 Peter 3:15-16 (ESV) is a stinging rebuke to their behavior: “But in your hearts honor Christ the Lord as holy, always being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you; yet do it with gentleness and respect, having a good conscience, so that, when you are slandered, those who revile your good behavior in Christ may be put to shame.” Where is the gentleness in doxing a Christian over a joke? In demanding his church excommunicate him and the implicit threat to his pastor, that if he doesn’t punish his congregant, he might similarly face the wrath of a Cosby sweater-wearing, tattoo-sleeved walking contradiction of Christian maturity? Where is the respect in demanding a man’s livelihood be stripped away? Their actions betray a conscience seared by self-righteousness, not guided by Christ.
This inquisition is not about defending truth; it is about power. These evangelical warlords revel in their ability to control, to punish, to play Caligula in their digital empire, demanding scalps like trophies. But their empire is built on sand, their maturity a facade. They are not shepherds leading the flock to green pastures; they are wolves, tearing at the body of Christ for clout. I ask you, is what James White is doing publicly on the Dividing Line that differently from what Josh Buice did in secret? As Paul warns in Galatians 5:15 (ESV), “But if you bite and devour one another, watch out that you are not consumed by one another.” Their crusade is consuming the very unity they claim to protect.
This is the man who literally said - and I quote - “thank God” when my troubles became known to him. Who with a conscience says that? This is the man who on numerous occasions repeated falsehoods about me to his Dividing Line audience who, after doing it the first time and being corrected in countless comments from his own listening audience, went on and repeated those false claims again. And for what purpose did he do that? Because I’ve only asked that the Christian Church not schism because of blind hatred toward the Christian Nationalists, or asked that they be treated fairly?
What a wretched, ungodly existence they must lead, consumed by the need to police humor and enforce their brand of piety. This is not the fruit of the Spirit—love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control (Galatians 5:22-23). It is the fruit of pride, wrath, and envy. The Christian life is not about wielding power over others but about serving them in humility, as Christ did. As Philippians 2:3-4 (ESV) commands, “Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves. Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others.” The anti-woke inquisitors have forgotten this, if they ever knew it.
In the end, the call is clear: repent. Everyone involved, especially if they present themselves as the epitome of maturity, must turn from this childish, hypocritical crusade. We must all stop devouring our brothers over trifles. We must stop aligning with godlessness and atheists and effeminate tattlers and scandal-mongers to fight our battles. We must pursue the maturity of Christ, who bore our sins, not our grudges.
The church deserves better than a digital Colosseum where Christians are thrown to the lions for a laugh. We must strive for the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace (Ephesians 4:3), not the division of self-righteous wrath. Anything less is a betrayal of the gospel we claim to uphold.
To be clear, I’m not saying that the anons are being mature or godly. Often times they are crass, and some of them give you reason to doubt they’re Christians at all. But they’re not the ones lecturing us on Christian maturity. They’re not the ones calling their critics pugnacious in the most pugnacious way possible. They’re not the ones sitting on the high throne of apologetics, demanding to be heard and shown deference because of their 1,874 debates in 3,569 countries on 12 continents in 7 hemispheres on five planets in three entirely different galaxies. And for the love of all that’s holy and pure, if James White would set about to defend the character and wisdom of God, like he defends his own, half the Islamic world would be saved in a week, should the Spirit be willing.
And where the heck are the G3 boys regarding James’ behavior, demanding the doxing of his critics or his dripping of pride and avarice all over Reformed Evangelical Christendom? Can we possibly get Phil Johnson, Justin Peters, and Chris Rosebrough to do a YouTube video chastising him for being too argumentative and hateful, or does he have to go to rehab first? I’m being serious, at least so far as a suggestion that if he had anybody around him who loved him at all, they’d tell him to chill out, calm down, check his pride, and stop defaming Christ by claiming that his behavior is even remotely Biblical.
The spectacle of James White and his ilk demanding the doxing, de-platforming, and excommunication of their critics is not just a circus—it’s a masterclass in the very "wokeness" they claim to despise. The irony is suffocating. These self-proclaimed guardians of biblical fidelity, who rail against the "woke right," are wielding the exact tactics of the woke left: silencing dissent, punishing political incorrectness, and weaponizing outrage to control narratives. They cry "woke" at anyone who dares question their sacred cows—whether it’s blind allegiance to Israel, racially charged rhetoric, or a crude joke like Defiant Baptist’s “no homo” quip—while mirroring the cancel culture they condemn. If you say something deemed unsavory about race, they slap the “racist” label on you and call for your head. If you criticize their geopolitical stances, they demand your silence or your scalp. This is not the robust defense of truth; it’s the woke playbook dressed in a Cosby sweater.
Consider the parallels. The woke left thrives on doxing their enemies, de-platforming voices they dislike, and pressuring institutions to fire or ostracize those who step out of line. James White’s plea to unmask Defiant Baptist, coupled with his past attempts to pressure my advertisers to cancel me, is cut from the same cloth. These are not the actions of a confident apologist standing on the rock of Scripture; they are the tantrums of a Karen clutching her pearls, demanding compliance or destruction. The anti-woke right has become the mirror image of the woke left, sanctifying their censorship with Bible verses and smug self-righteousness. They’ve traded the sword of the Spirit for the guillotine of public shaming, and the hypocrisy is glaring.
What’s more, this evangelical inquisition is embarrassingly late to the party. The broader culture—pagan, lost, and stumbling as it is—has begun to moonwalk away from the excesses of cancel culture. Corporations are scaling back DEI initiatives, universities are rethinking speech codes, and even secular commentators are questioning the efficacy of mob outrage. Yet, just as the world starts to tire of wokeness, evangelicals like White are doubling down, amping up their own version of cancel culture with a decade-long delay. It’s as if they’ve just discovered the 2015 woke handbook and decided to make it their mission statement. The secular world, in its clumsy way, is undergoing a necessary reform, while these evangelical warlords are gleefully building their own digital gulags. The church, which should be a beacon of truth and grace, is instead playing catch-up with the worst impulses of a culture it claims to transcend.
THE EFFEMINATE CRUSADE
At the heart of this evangelical cancel culture lies a deeper issue: the effeminate nature of its tactics and leaders. The behaviors on display—tattling, doxing, hyper-sensitivity, and lashing out over hurt feelings—are not the hallmarks of biblical manhood but the caricature of a Karen screaming for the manager. Eli McGowan, the flamboyantly effeminate anon-hunter enlisted to expose critics, is a walking contradiction of the “godly masculinity” these crusaders claim to champion. His behavior, whether closeted or not, mocks their supposed stand for biblical gender roles. Then there’s Andrew Sandlin, trotted out to lecture on masculinity despite embodying the opposite of the robust, grounded manhood Scripture calls for. Putting Sandlin on stage to pontificate about biblical masculinity is like casting a vegan to teach a butchery class—it’s a farce, and everyone in the room knows it.
This effeminacy is not just a stylistic quirk; it’s a theological and cultural liability. Tattling on someone’s “problematic” tweets, as was done to Defiant Baptist, is not the behavior of a shepherd protecting the flock but of a gossiping busybody, the kind Proverbs 20:19 (ESV) warns against: “Whoever goes about slandering reveals secrets; therefore do not associate with a simple babbler.” Doxing a brother in Christ over a crude joke is not a defense of righteousness; it’s a petulant power play, the kind of hand-wringing fragility young men instinctively recoil from. Hyper-sensitivity to criticism, like White’s meltdown over a joke, reeks of weakness, not strength. These are not the actions of men grounded in the confidence of Christ but of those desperate to protect their fragile egos.
This effeminate posturing is particularly stark when contrasted with the growing appeal of Christian Nationalism. Say what you will about its excesses, but Christian Nationalism resonates with young men because its leaders lean into masculinity—unapologetic, bold, and willing to confront cultural decay head-on. They project strength, not whining; conviction, not hand-wringing. Meanwhile, the anti-woke right sends out figures like Sandlin to lecture on manhood while their leaders tattle like schoolgirls and cry foul over a tweet. Is it any wonder young men are drawn to the former and repelled by the latter? The anti-woke right crusaders’ obsession with policing humor and enforcing piety through doxing only deepens this divide, alienating the very demographic they claim to represent.
THE THEOLOGICAL IMPLICATIONS OF GENDER ROLES
The fixation on transgenderism in broader culture has inadvertently exposed a theological fault line within evangelicalism. Transgenderism, the weak link in the woke ideological chain, is crumbling under scrutiny because it defies the created order—male and female, distinct and complementary, as God designed (Genesis 1:27). As the world begins to reject this distortion of gender, evangelicals have an opportunity to reaffirm biblical manhood and womanhood. Yet, the anti-woke right squanders this moment by embracing tactics and leaders that undermine the very masculinity they claim to uphold. Their whining, tattling, and hypersensitivity are not just culturally off-putting; they are theologically bankrupt, betraying the robust, sacrificial manhood modeled by Christ.
Biblical manhood, as seen in Jesus, is not about lashing out over hurt feelings or demanding scalps for slights. It’s about strength under control, humility in service, and courage in the face of opposition. When Paul describes the qualifications for elders in 1 Timothy 3:2-3 (ESV), he calls for men who are “sober-minded, self-controlled, respectable, hospitable, not a drunkard, not violent but gentle, not quarrelsome.” White’s behavior—demanding doxing, reveling in his critics’ troubles, and repeating falsehoods despite correction—falls far short of this standard. It’s not just immature; it’s effeminate in the biblical sense, lacking the self-control and gentleness Scripture demands of leaders.
This theological misstep has cultural consequences. Young men, hungry for purpose and identity in a world that vilifies masculinity, are not drawn to leaders who cry foul over a joke or tattle to employers. They are drawn to those who embody strength, conviction, and a willingness to fight for truth without resorting to petty vendettas. Christian Nationalism, for all its flaws, taps into this hunger by projecting a vision of manhood that resonates with the biblical call to courage and leadership. The anti-woke right, by contrast, alienates these men with its sanctimonious fragility, ensuring its own irrelevance.
A CALL TO REPENTANCE AND REFORM
The church cannot afford to continue this charade. The anti-woke right’s crusade is not just a betrayal of biblical principles; it’s a self-inflicted wound on the body of Christ. Their tactics—doxing, de-platforming, and demanding conformity—mirror the woke left they decry, exposing their hypocrisy and undermining their witness. Their effeminate behavior alienates young men and contradicts the biblical vision of manhood. If evangelicals are to reclaim their cultural and theological influence, they must reject this digital inquisition and return to the gospel’s call for humility, unity, and maturity.
The path forward is clear: repent. James White and his allies must abandon their sanctimonious power plays and pursue the humility of Christ, who “did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant” (Philippians 2:6-7, ESV). The church must stop devouring its own over trifles and reject alliances with godless voices like James Lindsay, whose vulgarity mocks the holiness they claim to defend, or Eli McGowan, who was advocating for Antifa basically last week and whose entire personality is basically one big lisp. White’s friends - if he has any - must call out this behavior, not with YouTube clickbait, but with the sober rebuke of Titus 3:10-11, urging their brother to turn from division and pride.
To the broader church, I say, stop playing the world’s game. Cancel culture, whether secular or evangelical, is a tool of destruction, not edification. The gospel calls us to bear with one another in love, not to burn each other at the stake for a tweet. Young men need leaders who model Christ’s strength and humility, not Karen-like tantrums. The unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace (Ephesians 4:3) is worth more than the fleeting thrill of a digital scalp. Let us strive for the maturity of Christ, who bore our sins, not our grudges, and who calls us to serve, not to destroy.
In the end, the anti-woke right’s crusade is a house built on sand, destined to crumble under the weight of its own hypocrisy. The church deserves better than a digital Colosseum where brothers are thrown to the lions for a laugh. Let us reject this effeminate, woke inquisition and pursue the gospel’s call to love, humility, and truth. Anything less is a betrayal of the Christ we claim to follow.
