Duuuuuuuddeee....that got me fired up. I love Pastor MacArthur, for the exact reasons you stated. He was strong, convicted, unapologetic. He was the blunt truthteller many people needed, including me. Im not new, but returning, as an ignorant being knowing I know nothing but I needed guidance. The world, satan, really showed me the truth. It was hard to not see. When things were going well, the majority of the nation was Christian, and when it stopped going well...the only real difference was not only were the majority not Christian, but God had been kicked out of all of society. So I believed because I saw the evidence. MacArthur cemented it, amd then told me I was part of the problem, and what that means, and how to change it. I didn't think he was Calvinist because of being a dispy, but I know he preached the Word like only 1 can amd believed a lot of the same things. But when I found him, I had no clue what a calvinist was. I just know when he spoke, I felt his conviction amd he believed every word with every fiber of his soul he was telling me. Through YT of course. It turns out I dont actually agree with him on everything, but theres not a whole lot I don't and still think his study Bible is the best one out there. Pastor John did what all good Sheppard do, he got me back on the right path, and he made sure I knew, that it happened because of God and His glory. May his body rest in peace and his spirit rejoice with the Lord. Thank you God for sending John into my life. And I know Im not the only one.
Oh, and his book "the one perfect life" ia the best layout of Jesus's ministry and the gospel I've ever seen. That's the book I recommend to others that want to learn and understand more about the gospel and Jesus Christ. Highly recommend. Its just the Bible, put together like nothing I've ever seen. Almost like if you took hos study Bible, and then wrote out all of the cross references together with their counterparts, and then put them in chronological order.
Awesome writing JD. And ad-libbing. Although I question if you meant to leave a whole section out of the audio part.
There will be no better obituary written for John MacArthur than this one.
And now there is a new genre of jokes. Not Chuck Norris jokes, but John MacArthur jokes! "John MacArthur and Superman once made a bet. They would fight, and the loser would have to wear his underwear outside of his pants." "John MacArthur has a bearskin rug. The bear is still alive. But it's afraid to move."
I have lost my favorite preacher, but fortunately, I will be watching John MacArthur sermons for years to come. I prefer watching over merely listening. No one could drip scorn with only one word, "Really?", like John MacArthur.
For those who have not watched John MacArthur sermons, I recommend start with these two: "Saved or Self Deceived, Parts 1 and 2."
"Well done, good and faithful servant. Enter into the joy of your master."
J.D. You have properly and powerfully honored the life and legacy of this great and humble servant of our Lord. What an inspiration and example John MacArthur has been to all of us! Let us rejoice as we look forward to the huge reunion ahead, where we will each have the best seat in the House!
This is the Good News. We have this hope because John preached it. Every generation has faithful men of God who teach us the truth of God's word. Thanks be to God for this servant who taught the truth so well. I feel joy that John is now with his Lord and Savior.
I have a great deal of respect for MacArthur's lack of fear of man, his devotion and love of the scriptures and the God Who ordained them. However there are many aspects of how he interpreted the scriptures that I strongly disagree with. May he rest in peace, and come to realize that women have a place outside of the kitchen and the home.
This is the singular most brilliant article I’ve ever read and the greatest tribute to the GOOT (great of our time), Johnny Mac. First time I learned of him was in 2020 watching, “American Gospel, Christ Alone”. That was it. John MacArthur, Paul Washer, RC Sproul…all of my 43 years of Churchism dismantled in one sitting.
My 21 year-old daughter sent me this article saying it made her laugh so hard, drop her jaw (in awe of your brilliantly perfect depiction of JM), and even cry. The nostalgia for the Mac-Daddy is already here for us both.
Anywhos, JD, God has gifted you with artistic pen-welding techniques I’ve rarely had the pleasure to read.
This article slayed. So I had to subscribe. I’m sharing this article with everyone I know.
What a wonderful obituary. On a side note Chris Roseborough went full scumbag on his YouTube today brought up the issue with that woman at Johns church from years ago. Such a catty feminine man, not worth watching anymore.
Can someone help me understand why the Lord didn’t correct his dispensational views throughout his 60-year ministry as I cannot understand as I’ve known other Baptists including my former pastor who the Lord brought out of it as well as his associate current associate minister in a quasi Presbyterian/Baptist amalgamation church here in Charlotte.

A beautiful tribute to a fearless man who never flinched in the face of an increasingly theologically compromised world. I will miss him.

We have been so blessed. May we carry the torch he taught so well. So thankful to have “sat at his feet l” all these years.

They just don’t make ‘em like they used to.
