Paying the Day Laborer
This beautiful line in the Old Testament demonstrates so clearly that God understands and appreciates the working man.
In the tender embrace of Scripture, we find a passage that whispers to the heart of the working man, the weary laborer whose hands toil beneath the sun for the bread of tomorrow. Deuteronomy 24:14-15 speaks with a clarity that resonates through the ages: “Do not take advantage of a hired worker who is poor and needy, whether that worker is a fellow Israelite or a foreigner residing in one of your towns. Pay them their wages each day before sunset, because they are poor and are counting on it. Otherwise, they may cry to the Lord against you, and you will be guilty of sin.”
Here, in these sacred words, we glimpse the profound compassion of a God who sees the smallest details of our lives, who knows the ache of an empty pocket, and who calls us to mirror His kindness in our dealings with one another.
